DIL SE..

namste dude-log.shamanth here. as the vacation mood has set in..i'll try something i have never done before practically, but have done a million times mentally, every time listen to my favourite songs--dissect it thoroughly,bit-by bit and beat-by-beat. inspired by roy's analysis of YEH HASEEN WAADIYAAN,i'll b trying my hand at this...dunno if it'll be good....so spare me if u find anythin boring..

first up...lemme start by paying my homage to the GOD of MUSIC-"MR. AR RAHMAN". many of u reading this may or may not know(i know...a poor statistical guess) that i am a fan of his music since i can remember....
so anyway...i'll start with the analysis of one of my most favourite composition of the maestro..."DIL SE". if u want to njoy the analysis..i would suggest u listen to the song using earfones/headfones while reading ahead.....the effect is totally awe-inspiring.

DIL SE(6:41)

(0.00-0.08)
the song starts with a systematic heart-beat-kinda drumming, gently garnished by synchronised bass-guitar plucks and the periodic bell-types sound.(this is the basic rythm of the song followed right through the end of the song)

(0.09-0.12)
after the first 4 sets of beats at the end of 8 secs, the soothing voice of rahman gradually fills the air for the next 2 set of beats.

(0.13-0.28-0.45)
the singing starts with a BANG,and a south-indian accent. it continues till 0.28 secs and the same is repeated from 0.29 to 0.45. this piece ends with BANG and rahman's voice fades away like a scream in a desert would.

(0.46-0.53)
a 4-beat filler..building up the effect.

(0.54-1.12-1.23-1.37-1.54-2.03)
the singing resumes at a much lower pitch(compare it with the pitch in th first section of vocals..this is not even the limit of rahman's vocal range) with the same beats in the background till 1.12,where a light-hit metallic-kinda beat (3+2-kinda-rythm) is heard a bit louder in the right earfone than in the left one(thts wt i think..!). it continues till 1.23. th vocals continue as usual till 1.37 wher the metallic 3+2 beat starts again, but this time at a different line(dil toh akhir dil hai na...),while previously it starts at a later line(pi(starts here)ya piya...piya na piya..) n continues till 1.54. the rest of the segment ends with a rahman-style-weird-lingo-chorus,with a complicated combination of different set of beats..on either side..i mean right-earfone(the same metallic sound in a different rythm) n left earfone.

(2.04-2.42)
a different sound starts..probably which sounds like something the DJs usually do..(not hardcore scratching though..). the chorus n the instrumental fillers are alternated, while the complicated combination of beats mentioned above continue right through the segment.

(2.43-2.54-3.09)
again rahman swoops in with the first stanza..n the chorus joins him,at 2.55,as if from the back of ur head
(effect is perfect if ur still with ur earfones..n not with th speakers),but with a slightly different lyrical-combination at select words..(try to figure it out...!) the segment ends with a heavy-duty-huge-drumming.

(3.12-3.19-3.30)
the vocals continue,with a short piano-keying at 3.19-3.20. the vocals repeat and end with a falling-effect-types vocals+metallic-sounding-drumming

(3.50-3.55-3.59-4.19-4.42)
the stanza ends with a a set of two differnt-pitched voice of rahman.NOW comes the SOUL of the song..one of the best fillers ever composed..! at 3.55 a basic-rythm-building acoustic guitaring fills up till 3.59(slightly louder at th left side). a sufi-style background guitaring starts at 3.59 with an out-of beat-style wooden beat, like a drum-sticks striking effect (louder at the right) till 4.19. Now starts the foot-tapping lead guitaring while the background guitar mentioned above continues with a rythmic bell-types sound on the left-side. the lead finishes off with a heavy-duty-drumming.

(4.43-5.24)
rahman strikes again with a slowly rising voice with the chorus joining in at 4.53 at a low volume. the combination of left-rigth beat combination sneaks up.the
short piano-keying reappears at 5.14 and the stanza ends with th same falling-effect-types vocals+metallic-sounding-drumming.

(5.25-6.03-6.18)
the chorus and rahman's vocals are interleaved in a very asymmetric form. the chorus ends at 6.03 and rahman exhales slowly till 6.18

(6.19-6.35)
the soft-spoken background score keeps on going with a few low-volumed flute spikes alongwith the drums n a one-time needle-type sounding chime-beat or smthng at 6.20,as the song gracefully fades away...only to make u wanna hit replay.

i hope u didnt doze off in th middle of the blog....but if u did...then u wouldnt be reading this...so never mind..and dont be shy to send me hate-mails for making u guys go thru this.

dfx..

ok heres what dfx is all about,
the dfx link is at the end of the page , I believe each of the music fans have the right to DFX ,i am not under the impression that pleople dont know about it,but i think those who know it are keeping shut about it's utility, c'mon people spread the word ,dfx deserves all the accolades. It ll lighten up the way u hear ur mp3's.
It took really long for me to understand what does the word DFX actually means, it means "the effects", ya..
True to its name ,it really brings out the true quality of the mp3 songs, digitally mastered audio enhancement i would say.
What dfx does is ,it just filters mp3 songs so much ,so that you can literally experience the true digital quality of your mp3.
so enjoy! dudes.........
The only element against this my liking to dfx is, that you only get a trial version of dfx when downloaded form the net or installed from a utility cd.But if u have a credit card then things become a bit simpler.
For those who dont have that ,so called privelege(like myself..lol) they get to keep the trial version in which a nosy screen keeps coming every time you start your media player, which reminds you to become capable enough to own a credit card.......damn that splash screen.
Anyways ...... DFX is a good enhancement software anybody can ever ask for.
It is availiable for many media players namely: winamp, windows media player, sonique , real audio ,etc. etc...basically those players which are widely used.
so ,as per your choice you know which one to click on.
when you reach
http://www.fxsound.com

thats the link..
enjoy!.

eq. preset

Hi again..
here i am gonna give you some gyaan on to optimise your speaker perfomance and the magic of dfx(oh man this rulz once you install it),dfx will be uncovered in my next post ,
as far as the speaker optimisation goes,
we all have our own methods of tuning the equaliser in winamp or windows media player
this is just something i thought would look cool in my bloggy bloggy(smiles!).
ok,this is the deal its pretty simple though ,if any of you guys have better ideas please please do let me know
through your comments,
here is what you do ,
first thing,
you go into your volume option in control panel and select to view the advanced volume panel, there is an option for the 3d effect ,it simply attenuates the speech part and makes the music part a bit kinda deep and wholefull.
And creates a lot of depth in the music part of the song ,so much so that if u exceed the 3d level all u can hear is the depthful music and the singers voice sounding as if dissolved in it.
You can experiment with it though ,not such a bad idea afterall eh,but baad mein pakne lagta hain,
and you start feeling ki 3d effect should be kept at minimal (just an opinion ).
rest of the sliders in the panel can be kept at minimal
or as per your best approx.,
now for the equaliser in winamp or any other media (funda is the same) but do it after u have modified the volume panel. We do know that there are loaded presets in the eq. as well ,even they can be tested for the starts but would prefer the way as I went thru it .

put volume in winamp to minimal so that only you can hear it,then simply

move the balance of the speakers to any one of the sides,

the very first slider should should be always at 0db,

play a song with optimum beat level, as per you ,
put rest all the sliders in mid and adjust them one by one as per the alterations heard in the song,
if u like the way the song sounds in a particular slider position what u simply do is leave it in that position .
at the end after adjusting all the sliders do not forget to save the preset and do share it on my blog
the more the merrier.
I tell you its quite an achievement if you music people,
can get the perfect eq. preset.

rehman...

Ok now somethin on mr.rehman and his work in the music industry,so here goes.
As we all are aware that he has given more value to each of the following movies by adding his music to them, movies like roja, bombay, rangeela, meenaxi, sapnay, swades, saathiya, rang de basanti and many others the latest to hit the deck "guru".
these are unforgettable and are some of his coveted achievements. And it is so that mr.rehman has been so immensely consistent in each of his movies although the technique(explained later) he uses to create his magic is same but somehow each song in each movie has a diffrent identity ,its not that he is using the same tune in some other folded and crooked way or anything like that rather i would comment that each song of his ,shows how much of hardwork he has put into it :the tune, the singer, the start or the takeoff of the song ,the works ..impecably awesome!!!

each aspect is so well done ,so well knitted ,that ,it is difficult to even imagine someone working in such a highly intricate organised manner, its like a sculptor trying his level best in getting the perfection "he expects from himself" , in shaping up his creations in his "own style",so that it appeals so much to the outside world that, when you look at the final product its simply rox!!

After hearing his music and his songs what i derive is that :this is a man who craves for perfection especially in his music, which he creates
and mind you none of his tunes ever repeat, and with singers which he chooses it is as if handpicking the best roses for a bouquet to be given to a loved one,his choice of singers, then the male-female combination which he decides for the particular song, and again he himself being such a good singer with a transcandantal voice that it makes him even more versatile as a music director,
Man! just think over it ,a music director who just cant give up the habbit of creating lovely music ,who is a excellent singer himself, has complete a-z knowledge of music and of what he is doing, who can play the keyboard and probably any instrument in the most best fashion ever and god knows what else this man can do in the field of music.
I came to know the briallance of mr. rehman in the movie "Roja" where I feel that his first, fresh, raw talent was unleashed, exposed, released unboundably..limitessly
the music which just cannot be forgotten.
man what great piece of work "that is" .I am not using past tense because the music in it is evergreen, everlasting, divine, absolutely radicle, and completely out of this world the more i listen to each one of it ,the more kinds of different kinds of opnions arise.
all in all a complete musical entertainer.

my first love..

Ok this is my first love ,
the song,
"yeh haseen vadiyaan..........."(Try this: play the song while reading the text below ....wait not yet)
Ofcourse we all enjoyed listening to it, this is wat i derive. Please note it was very difficult to decode and a lot of missing pieces in the puzzle due to the fact that raw talent can be decoded only by the creator.
That is why these are only my approximations:
So
Ladies and gentlemen i give you my very first decode:
(start the song here)
00:00 to 00:38
(here goes nothing)the song starts off with a 3 tune chord going form a low octave to a medium octave , staircases itself into a boom thing and finally a constant beating starts from here onwards to the end of the song ,a few lovely vocals and again a same boom thingy. In his music he sees to it that he keeps one constant beating arrangement, vocals continue and the song reaches a high(his songs have constant beats or a constant tune going on in the background ending only when the song ends ,also it contains the singers voice, other instruments etc.all rolled into one- many of his songs follow this technique) this is what acts as the backbone for the song, this helps the song to be in the state of its best form, he also makes optimum use of the other musical instruments simultaneously. All of that combined into one, interweaved into one song to make it one "hell of a masterpiece".
00:39 to 01:10
the song mellows , the beats continue, the beautiful lyrics start off in the melodiuos voice of suchitra and mr.balasubramanium with constant support by the keyboard for the singers.
01:10 to 01:30
an explosion of the feelings of love and romance is hinted in the music, the song reaches high again and then continues in lyrics.
01:30 to 02:14
the song takes such a graceful slow turn here, it is as if everything is drifting away ,drifting away in space , like a soul wandering away in its own pace as slowly as to enjoy the things around it ,the song i believe has the kind of soothing and relaxing feel to it ,the vocals, the humms given are so much divine as if it were a lullabye made for the angels up above, eventhough if the song is slow, its charm is unending.
03:11 to 03:49
now the 3 beats receive an addittion the constant alert type tune starts alongwith a flute ,and a multiface unexplainable chord comes in ,finally the same melodious flute and the blessed violin to end them both.
04:37 to 05:10
the song reaches a two peakes one after the other to reach the climax and the instruments, the same tune used in the begining are reapeted .and finally the song reaches
a beautiful ending ...
end.
roy!

intro..

Hi,
Welcome to Musicfried
All thanks to some powerful encouragement by mr.huddar and mr.kale
the site is back online..
My name is Roy,the creatOr of this site (ya! big deal) and i am just another music freak, but in addittion i would also like to say that music is oxygen to me,something which makes me tick and it is something on which i can solely survive on ,i owe my very existence to it, it is something like water to me surrounded by it,and flowing within ,its like a never ending waterfall flowing in full rush with full thrust promising never to dry up and never to end , etc. and its something u will find all over this website(muahh! to music). i think this would sufficeint to let you know about my love for music .
Also since i consider A.R.Rahman as the supreme in the current world of music ,i have basically tried my best to understand his work. Like have you ever pondered over the thought that what was this guy thinking ,each and every song turns out so well that the word "masterpiece" itself falls incompetent.
Its a song by song analysis, to some extent the site is like that , but in the attempt ,i realised the fact that there must be much more crazier AR Rahman fans out there and i will be needing their thoughts to complete the site ,so heres wat i am gonna do :its gonna be an open forum, i ll be putting my opnions regarding a song ,all u have to do is either comment or add to my missing details or simply criticise, even curses would do(lol) . So lock and load !,strictly music coming your way.
roy!
